Tokyo Game Show: New Stuff!!

I’m a big fan of Tokyo, infact, of Japan in general.

I also really like videogames. So it may come to no surprise that I always look forward to the annual Tokyo Game Show.

Yesterday marked the first day of this years show…it hasn’t disappointed!

First off, on a couple of occasions on both here and in my own blog I’ve mentioned a Level-5 (the creators of Professor Layton,, White Knight Chronicles) have teamed up with the fantastic Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle) to create a DS and PS3 title called Ni no Kuni. I’ve some a handful of screenshots in the past, mainly for the DS version of the title, however today saw the release of a bunch of screenshots for the PS3 version of the title, as well as a video to accompny it. It looks FANTASTIC, exactly how I’d dreamt a Studio Ghibli inspired videogame would be.

Moving on, can anyone remember this?

Steel Battalion was an Xbox exclusive title that used that above controller. It was by no means cheap, and not many were made and sold. I remember a number of years back playing on one where I used to work…sure it was a bit of a pain to move and a little complex to play, but it was (and still is) the closest I’ve ever been to controlling a mech all of my own.

So why am I talking about this now you may wonder? Today, in conjunction with Microsoft, Capcom announced that Steel Battalion is returning! No big expensive accessory this time however, as this 360-exclusive title uses the upcoming Kinect camera to play. Expect plenty of on screen buttons to press by waving your hands in front of the camera. Steel Battalion is certainly a game to keep an eye on.

The next title I’d like to point you towards is yet another Playstation 3 exclusive, Team Ico’s The Last Guardian. Although little in the way of new information about the game has been spoken about, the team have released a batch of new screenshots to fall in love with. A ‘fall 2011’ date has been set, although I’m not sure if that’s just for Japan…and/or the U.S., or heck, maybe even including us here in Europe!

Speaking of Team Ico…did any of you hear a rumour that they were bringing a Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD pack for PS3? That rumour, is infact very true!

Plenty more stuff has been announced and displayed. Many of the popular videogame sites across the wonderful wide web are reporting from Tokyo, but I’d like to thank Kotaku for the links/screenshots/videos included in this post.

The Blast Process team shall be picking out our favourite news and announcements from the Tokyo Game Show in the coming few days once the show has ended, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
