I was initially going to round up the announcements and information from the show in a big post after the show had ended, but after the flood of stuff that’s appeared online today… Lets just say, I wanted to share the news with all you Processors.
Sony released the Playstation Portable (PSP) in the UK back in 2005. Since then, we’ve had 4…yep 4 different versions of the little handheld. Sadly none of them quite pulled in the punters as much as Sony wanted, with Nintendo continuing to dominate the handheld videogame console market.
I don’t think releasing so many different versions of it have helped. In my opinion, the last version of the PSP, the Go, was an experiment to see if people were ready for a console that could only play games that you had to download.
The answer was no.
So, with that in mind Sony set about creating the PSP Vita, a brand new console with powerful graphics, dual analogue sticks and front/back touch screens. This isn’t the new PSP I mentioned moments ago however. They’ve only gone and announced another PSP model.
No real details other than its set to be about €99 and it’ll be compatiable with all previously released games. Why not just make the current PSP cheaper instead of paying for the devolpment/marketing costs of a new model? Oddness.
*New Just In!* It has been confirmed that the new PSP model ‘E-1000’ does not have Wi-Fi capabilities and will be exclusive to Europeon territories. Fear not though you will still be able to download games for it buy connecting it to a computer and using Sony’s Online Network Store and Media Go functions. Here’s Sony’s description of the new unit:
‘Value for money is the goal with this new model that will retail at just €99.99 (RRP), accompanied by an exciting range of PSP Essentials titles that will retail at only €9.99 (RRP) and will include Invizimals: The Lost Tribe, EyePet Adventures, FIFA 12 and many more.
While PSP E-1000 does not include Wi-Fi, it will still provides access to the full catalogue of PSP games either on UMD or from PlayStation Store via Media Go. The design is also slightly different, with a Charcoal Black finish – the same as on the slimmer PS3 model – to give more of a matte feel.’
Battlefield: New 64 player Trailer
I’m not going to waste time writing anymore than this. The new Battlefield looks amazing…and then I saw this trailer… Call of what?
Borderlands 2 Teaser
The original Borderlands has quite a number of fans, so the news that it was getting a sequel was met with applause. Gearbox have put a teaser trailer online, which can be viewed below:
Steel Battalion: New Details and Trailer
We chatted during our Sunday radio show about various bits and pieces, including the Xbox Mech title Steel Battalion (the one with the massive controller/foot pedals). A sequel had been announced a few months ago, and today Capcom have revealed more information, such as using a controller and Kinect to play the game. Check out the trailer below, and this link for more information about the game.
Warhammer Online, Wraith of Heroes
Bioware are releasing a new game as part of the Play4Free range, and its based on the MMO Warhammer Online. Wraith of Heroes takes the PVP element of the MMO and pops it in your browser. 6v6 matches, with all the classes from the online title to play as. I’m liking the look of this, as I love Warhammer and free stuff. Result.
Just as I was going to wrap this post up I go and find this out…
Nintendo are to release a newly designed Wii console this Christmas. It’s going to sit horizontally on your desk instead of vertically but won’t be compatible with Gamecube software and accessories. Expect it to be pretty cheap!
Perhaps releasing this with Zelda will encourage people who’ve sold their Nintendo Wii to once again purchase the console to play whats shaping up to be an excellent final Nintendo game on the Wii. That obviously isn’t confirmed, but it will have a MotionPlus controller, Wii Sports and Wii Party.
Along with these announcements, the lineup of Playstation Vita games have all got new fancy trailers. Such as Resistance, LittleBigPlanet and information about features like Skype that’ll be avaliable on the Vita.
Should also mention the PS3 is getting a price cut too. £199.99. Tasty.
I’m going to try and keep up with the recent announcements over in Germany, so keep your eyes peeled on Blast Process for another Gamescom round up.
